In this role you support healthy, safe, and secure working conditions for colleagues traveling and working outside The Netherlands. You do so by using your risk management-based advisory and skills. Your role is key in ensuring that we all maintain a culture of safety and security, it comprises both advisory and in critical situations, guidance and support for direction and decision-making.

Where are you going to work?

Your position is situated in the department for International Assistance based at the Head Quarters of the Netherlands Red Cross in The Hague.

The Senior Security Officer is your line manager.

What are your core tasks going to be?
You support with prevention, preparedness, mitigation, and critical incident guidance. This is done for example by security briefings for delegates and travelers. By strengthening awareness, and ensure informed decision making and consent at all levels of the organization.

You support the senior security officer to develop and maintain tools, guidelines, and policies for security management by line managers at NLRC HQ at The Hague and colleagues and travelers in the field, including critical incident management.

You support security risk assessments (both at distance and in-field) and ensure country security plans, minimum security requirements, critical incident management plans, procedures, guidelines and tools are regularly updated.

You support the operational desks and management at HQ and in the field with monitoring of risks, trend analysis and forecast/scenario development, and the organization of trainings and regular in-house simulation drills & scenario exercises.

In case of critical incidents and emergencies you are able to travel at short notice, and work irregular hours in stressful and often ambiguous conditions;

In addition, you actively participate in the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement security network and other relevant forums.

What do you bring?

Skills and experience

  • You are a dynamic person with a strong understanding of humanitarian principles and Code of Conduct framework, and have a background in security, risk management, law or social sciences.
  • You have a minimum of 4 years' experience working in risk management in complex and volatile humanitarian contexts.
  • You have a sound understanding of gender aspects in relation to security risk and management.
  • You speak and write fluently in English. Dutch language proficiency is desired. Being able to speak French is an asset.
  • You have experience with remote management, advising staff in the field from your HQ position

We offer a contract for one year, with the possibility of extension depending on funding/performance.

The salary scale level is set at scale 11 as mentioned in the collective agreement, depending on experience, minimum of €3.869,44 and a maximum of € 5.031,20 (gross per month on the basis of full-time employment).

Our office is in the Hague, walking distance from the Laan van NOI station. Based on our re-work concept you work activity based, partly from home and partly from the office. We regularly meet colleagues on the workfloor but also online via Teams to discuss cross functional issues and to stay connected to each other and our networks.
